Welding required for final
installation in your car.
Basic Idea;
The top has a
Pittsburg Seam and the Inner
Wall has a 90 deg Lip. The
90 deg lip will insert into
the open slot of the
Pittsburg Seam and then the
lip on the Pittsburg Seam
will be hammered over to
lock them together.
Step 1:
First is to put a slight
arch in the top piece of the
tub. This will aid in
assembly and allow you and
help prevent kinking or
bending the Top Piece during
assembly.
Step 2:
Start at the end marked
FRONT on the top piece.
(Mustang – Align the front
edge of the side with the
line marked on the Top Piece
(within ¼” is fine) F-Body
– The Side piece will have
an alignment mark on the
back side of the Inner Wall
Piece that will line up with
the front mark of the Top
Piece. The Inner Wall Piece
will be longer than the Top
Piece and extend off the
edge.) Tap in the 90 deg lip
from the Inner Wall into the
Pittsburg Seam. Hammer over
about 1” length of the lip
from the Pittsburg Seam
Step 3:
You will now need to start
working in more of the 90
Deg Lip from the Inner Wall
Piece into the Groove of the
Pittsburg Seam. Pull the
inner wall back against the
Top Piece and slowly start
taping in the 90 deg lip,
starting near the last point
you hammered over. Don’t get
too aggressive just light
taping to ensure the two
pieces are going together
correctly. About every 8”
hammer over another 1”-2”
section to hold the tubs
together and prevent them
from coming apart.
Step 4:
Continue following the steps
in Step 3 above until you
get all the way around the
tub. You should have about
5- 6 spots at this time
hammered over.
.
Step 5:
Now you can start slowly
hammering over the remainder
of the lip on the Pittsburg
Seam. DO NOT try and hammer
it over with one hit. The
idea is to slowly bend it
over between the hammered
over sections. Typically it
will take about 4-5 passes
to get the lip hammered over
completely. If you try and
hammer it over too quickly
you will end up with ripples
and it will not lay smooth.
Step 6:
Continue with following Step
5 above all the way around
the tub until you have the
complete tub hammered over.
Step 7:
Your finished ends should
now look like below with the
entire lip hammered over
smooth.
Step 8:
Repeat for second tub. You
should now have a complete
pair of tubs assembled.
